A Brief History On Song For The Mute

Founded in 2010 by graphic artist Melvin Tanaya and Accademia Italiana Di Moda-trained designer Lyna Ty, the Australian label Song for the Mute creates sleek, modern clothes with an unconventional approach to traditional fabrics, making them the first menswear brand to walk away with the prestigious Designer Award at the L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival.

For their Spring/Summer 2019 collection entitled “Still Life”, the designers took inspiration from an imaginary house constructed somewhere in the idyllic southern France, of which Lyna envisioned a certain person to inhabit.

WORKER JACKET SHEER WAVE

The design process starts with one of the most intrinsic senses, the sense of touch. The Australian duo regularly sources fabric from Italian and traditional Japanese mills that produce one-off fabrics for the likes Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garçons.
