L’armoire presents our latest editorial titled ‘Blurriness’. The presentation showcases the inspirations drawn from natural elements that surrounds what Phaédo Studios is firmly rooted on. For Spring Summer 2018, Phaédo Studios‘ designer Zhu Zhu chose to work with traditional dyes and techniques paying homage to his Chinese heritage.
Early in the brand’s inception, Zhu Zhu’s Chinese descent and expertise with fashion techniques naturally led him to conceive Phaédo Studios as an entity that spans in the likeliness of design, art and fashion.
Drawing influences from the elements embedded around oneself, and understanding the importance of human touch in objects, it is as though Phaédo seeks to have a conversation with the individuals as they interact with its pieces.

The name Phaédo, inspired after a book by Plato, discussing the immortality of souls, clearly highlights Zhu Zhu’s experimental design practices and unique take on fabric decisions. Three years of extensive research, fast forward to his first collection in 2017, Zhu Zhu is set on allowing Phaédo to embark on its natural course.
REDEFINING THE NOTION OF ‘MADE IN CHINA’.
From Zhu Zhu’s point of view, focusing on what he set out to do rather than being influenced by the external factors effortlessly sets himself apart from the mundane. Exploring the individual qualities of simple materials like cotton and silk, this then allows the emphasis of materials chosen to be explored in its entirety.
An unconventional approach utilized by Phaédo Studios for its presentation of the first collection in 2016 at the Triennale di Milano aided in staying true to conceiving an identity parallel to Zhu Zhu’s vision of uncompromising the details when it comes to perfecting his craft.
