A Brief History On m.a+
Born in Rome, Italian designer Maurizio Amadei harboured a keen interest in design from a young age. Through his tenure at the cult Italian label Carpe Diem, Amadei earned recognition for his unique and innovative leather accessories, most significantly bags and belts. Throughout the short lifetime of Carpe Diem, Amadei continued to practise and perfect his leather-working craft, culminating in the birth of his namesake label.

Borne from the ashes of Carpe Diem, M.A+ is the heir to Amadei’s distinct design ethos. For its inaugural 2006 collection a series of accessories were presented, most notably a seamless messenger bag featuring now-signature folding patterns. Immediately following this collection Amadei pushed on fervently, expanding his repertoire from simply leather accessories to include essential menswear garments. Thus it was this Spring/Summer 2007 collection that cemented M.A+ as a vital player in the avant-garde fashion scene.

In-line with his established collection of accessories, Amadei imprints the same design aesthetics to M.A+ garments, creating iconic and wearable clothing and footwear. Although simplistic at first glance, for M.A+ the devil is in the details: tee shirts folded out of a singular piece of cloth with each curve and line carefully calculated to ensure exact dimensions, trousers with spiralling seams twisting up each leg, jackets whose sleeves flare and sit neatly upon the wearer’s knuckles. All emblazoned, in one form or another, with the emblematic equal-armed cross.

For M.A+, innovation does not necessarily equate evolution. Season after season, the label has proven that sticking to iconic designs and cuts whilst incorporating subtle, fleeting changes is more than enough to uphold a respected name in the industry. By remaining faithful to his design philosophy, Amadei plays by his own rules and creates timeless pieces that retain innovation and offer something unique to those who dare to seek.
