A VIRTUAL EXHIBITION FEATURING GREG LAUREN

Patchwork, reworked vintage with a shot of deconstruction, the signature look behind Greg Lauren’s pieces that we are familiar with. This season, we go beyond the physical and bring our audiences through the impeccable work behind multi-disciplinary artist and designer Greg Lauren through the medium of a virtual exhibition— In 5 different rooms, each a representation of his ideals and work, we speak to Greg Lauren on the ethos behind his eponymous label, his core identity, what shaped him as a designer, as well as how he gives back to the community that has shaped the label.

“I’ve always been intrigued by just completely deconstructing familiar menswear archetypes and creating something new and different” This is the root of American-based designer, Greg Lauren’s designs and collection. A fervent advocate of sustainability— repurposing and up-cycling fabrics amongst others, Lauren launched a ‘No Scrap Goes Unused’ policy, where each piece of scrap is fully utilised to create one-of-a-kind garments. SCRAPWORK garments are produced by using wastage that would typically be directed to a landfill. Instead, thousands of scraps were given to local quilters to create yardage, which is referred to Greg Lauren SCRAPWORK.

One who takes pride and integrity in the process of clothes-making, Greg Lauren himself would never put out something that he doesn’t feel has been made with a certain level of care and craftsmanship. “With the simplest touch, whether it’s an additional design element or a stitch, or just choosing to do something a little bit differently on each one, there are ways to use hands-on techniques that make each piece feel like they’re one-of-a-kind and special.

To Greg Lauren, it isn’t just about making clothing look good, but what he as an individual and as a company can contribute to the society as a whole. It is accountability: making sustainability a pillar of what they are doing, to racial and social equity— making sure the ones along the supply chain benefit from what they are doing, and ultimately giving back to those who need.
